Description
Chinchilla is the softest fur there is and the hardest to buy well, which is why this horizontal chinchilla fur jacket exists as one piece in one size rather than as a style we cut to order. The skins are natural: that pale silver-grey with the dark line down the spine and the white belly, matched band by band so the stripe lands in the same place across the body, the sleeves and the back. Nothing is dyed and nothing is printed.
It is worked horizontally, which is what gives it the ribbed, rolling look and what makes the fur move in the light instead of lying flat. The collar stands deep at the back of the neck and folds over to frame the face, the body stops at the hip, and the full sleeves are gathered into banded cuffs. Worn over a black jean and a boot it is a Saturday coat; over black tailoring at night it is the most expensive-looking thing in the room, because it is.
A special purchase, which is how a fur like this reaches a price like this: bought as one lot, sold as one garment, in a size 8. Fitting and alterations are done in our own workroom on West 30th Street. See it beside the rest of our chinchilla coats and jackets and the rest of the clearance rail, and bring it back to us each spring to be stored, cleaned and repaired by the people who sold it. Sold on its own; the jeans, bag and boots are styling.
