Description
Remodel your vintage mink coat into a jacket you will actually wear. This men’s mink jacket began life as an inherited full-length coat — the kind that sits at the back of a closet for years because it is beautiful but dated. We restyled it into a modern, tailored piece with premium Italian suede, and we can do the same with yours.
The design: rugged luxury meets modern tailoring
This custom mink coat remodel balances the warmth of natural fur with the sleek, structured appeal of premium suede. The result reads contemporary and masculine rather than formal — a jacket for jeans and boots, not only for tailoring.
Key features of this remodel
- Strategic paneling: Lighter tan Italian suede through the side body and sleeves breaks up the bulk of a full-fur garment and creates a tailored, athletic silhouette.
- Rich contrasts: The deep, warm brown of the original upcycled mink frames the shoulders, chest and cuffs against the smooth suede.
- Bold detailing: Dark leather trim with metallic stud accents follows the contour of the suede panels, adding a rugged edge.
- Statement collar: The oversized lapel is retained and refined, offering warmth and a striking visual frame.
- Modern hardware: Updated oversized buttons complete the transition from an old-fashioned coat to an après-ski essential.
Why turn a vintage mink coat into a jacket?
Restyling a fur you already own is more than a wardrobe update — it is the most sustainable way to own fur.
- Preserve sentimental value: Keep a family heirloom alive as a custom piece you will actually wear.
- Sustainable luxury: Repurposing existing pelts uses no new resources. The greenest fur is the one that already exists.
- Bespoke fit: Older coats are boxy and dated. A remodel is tailored to your current measurements.
- Lightweight comfort: Replacing heavy panels with Italian suede cuts the weight and improves ease of movement.
- A fraction of the cost: The fur already exists, so you are paying for craftsmanship rather than new pelts.
How the mink coat remodel works
Note: Every remodel is entirely custom. Your design is dictated by the condition, colour and volume of your original coat, alongside your own style.
- Consultation and inspection: We assess the condition of your existing fur to determine its remodeling potential.
- Design and measurement: We choose the Italian suede colour and the cut with you, and take your measurements.
- The workroom: Our furriers take the coat apart and rebuild it by hand in our own atelier on West 30th Street.
- Fitting and finish: The finished jacket is cleaned, glazed and fitted before it comes back to you.
