Description
A swing coat: cut narrow at the shoulder and released through the body, so it hangs away from you and moves when you walk. The sleeves are dolman – cut in one with the body rather than set into a seam – which is what gives the shoulders their soft line and the arms that much room.
The hem is where the work is. A deep chevron border is mitred into the skirt, each pelt cut and set at an angle so the lines meet in a V and travel around the whole circumference. It is slow work and it is the reason to own this coat rather than a plain one; it also catches the light against the run of the body, so the hem reads darker as it moves.
Whiskey is a warm golden brown with red in it, lighter than mahogany and livelier than a natural demi-buff. Turned-back cuffs at the wrist, full length, nine pounds – carried down through the sweep rather than on the shoulders.
Cut and finished in our own New York workroom: American mink, American labour, American design. We size, shorten, restyle and reline in house, and this coat will be fitted to you before it leaves us.
