Description
Most men’s furs are quiet. This one is not, and it is not trying to be. A men’s black mink coat cut double breasted, six gold buttons in two rows of three, and wide notched lapels faced in a contrasting brown mink that runs from the collar down to the waist. The body is a black so deep it holds the light along each seam; the lapels are warm mahogany. That one decision, two colours instead of one, is what makes the coat.
It is cut long, to just below the knee, and square through the shoulder, so it sits on a man the way a good overcoat does rather than hanging off him. The skins are worked vertically down the body to keep the line tall. The revers are broad enough to wear turned up against the wind and the fur is left long, not sheared, which is what gives the coat its weight. Over a black roll-neck and a black trouser it is a uniform.
Cut and fitted in our own workroom on West 30th Street, where the sleeves and the length are set to you before it leaves. It belongs with our men’s mink coats and the rest of our men’s furs, and it comes back to us each spring to be stored, cleaned and repaired by the people who made it. Sold on its own; the jewellery and boots are styling.
