Description
A rainbow full length mink coat is the hardest kind of coloured fur to make well. Every band has to be dyed separately, matched for depth as well as hue, and then set against its neighbours so the eye reads one continuous sweep instead of a patchwork. Get the sequence wrong and it looks like offcuts; get it right and it looks like this.
The pelts are full-skin and run horizontally, which is what gives the colour its width and keeps the length from reading heavy. Mink takes dye more evenly than any other fur — the guard hair holds the tone while the underfur stays soft beneath it, so each band has depth rather than sitting flat.
How to wear it
Everything else stays quiet. Black, cream, or denim. The coat is the outfit and it does not want company.
One accessory, chosen well. With this much colour in play, a second statement becomes noise.
About the piece
Made and finished by hand at 212 West 30th Street, where we have been furriers since 1870. Alterations are done here rather than sent out.
