Description

A whiskey directional mink jacket, so called because the pelts run horizontally across the body instead of down it. That single choice is what separates a modern fur from an inherited one: the horizontal line shortens and widens, catches light along its length, and reads a great deal younger than the vertical cut most people picture.

The colour is whiskey — a warm honey-gold that sits somewhere between mahogany and champagne, and shifts with the light rather than staying flat. It is the shade that flatters the widest range of skin tones, which is why it never really goes out of the shop.

How to wear it

Against a clean base. A cream silk slip, or an all-white knit, lets the honey tones do the work. Nothing competes and the colour glows.

With a belt over the top. Even without loops, a leather belt cinched over the jacket breaks the horizontal lines and brings the waist back. It is the single easiest way to make a fur look deliberate rather than inherited.

With denim, for the daytime. High-waisted jeans and a pointed boot. The roughness of the denim against the softness of the pelt is the whole point — this is a jacket for a Saturday, not only for an evening.

Made and finished by hand at 212 West 30th Street, where we have been furriers since 1870. Every jacket is worked on the premises, and if the fit is not quite right we alter it ourselves rather than sending it out.
