Description
There is no collar, and that is the design. A black mink coat with cardigan collar finishes at a plain round neck with a narrow band, the way a good cardigan does, so nothing stands up around the jaw and the line runs straight from the shoulder to the hem. The front closes on a concealed placket, which leaves the whole coat as one unbroken sweep of dark fur with only a flat gold buckle to interrupt it.
The trim is where the money shows. A deep, plush fur is turned back at each wrist to make a cuff several inches deep, and the same fur is laid in a wide band around the hem, so the coat is edged top and bottom in something with more hair and more movement than the body. The belt is cut from fur too, not leather. Below the waist the skirt is full and swings out as you walk, and it falls well below the knee.
Made and fitted in our own workroom on West 30th Street. It sits with the rest of our black mink coats and our full length mink coats, and it comes back to us each spring to be stored, cleaned and repaired by the people who made it. Sold on its own; the gloves, bag and boots are styling.
