Description
Pale fur hides nothing, so a pale coat has to be cut properly or not at all. This ivory mink coat with cardigan collar is the one of the three where you can actually see the work: every seam between the vertical skins, the way the concealed placket keeps the front shut without a button showing, the exact point where the skirt starts to widen under the belt. On black all of that is felt rather than seen.
The neckline is collarless and finished with a narrow band, the belt is cut from the same fur and fastened with a flat gold buckle, and the cuffs are turned back deep at each wrist in a plusher, longer-haired fur that is echoed in the wide band around the hem. Against the gold it is a winter-wedding coat; over a jean and a boot on a Saturday it is simply the best thing on the street.
Made and fitted in our own workroom on West 30th Street. It belongs with our white mink coats and our full length mink coats, and a pale piece is the one that most rewards an annual clean, which we do in our own vaults. Sold on its own; the gloves, bag and boots are styling.
