Ice Blue Mink Jacket with Flounce Sleeves 1967

Description

Look at the sleeve and you can see how it is built. The flounce is not one piece of fur cut wide; it is worked in horizontal bands that step down from the elbow, each catching the light along a different line. That is what stops a pale colour going flat in a photograph, and it is the reason this ice blue mink jacket has any depth at all, because the shade itself is barely a colour.

Cold pale blue is the most difficult grade to keep consistent across a garment: any variation between skins shows at once where a warm brown would hide it. These were sorted before cutting so the front panels, the collar and both sleeves agree. The collar is a small rounded stand, the front hangs open with nothing to close it, and the body is cropped to the waist.

It reads as winter without reading as Christmas, which is a narrow and useful gap to sit in. Shown over matching satin, though it is at its best against grey or bone. Five other colours share this shape among our mink jackets and the rest of our coloured furs, and it should come back each spring for cleaning and cold storage.
