Description
Navy, red and a thread of grey on white mink: New England’s colours, and the quietest of the four stripings this jacket comes in. Where the red and black version shouts, this one is closer to a regimental tie, three bands running the length of each sleeve from the shoulder seam to the cuff and the same three crossing both flap pockets at the hip. On a white ground the navy does most of the work and the red sits inside it as an accent, which is why it goes with a grey turtleneck as easily as with a jersey.
The jacket itself is white mink worked sideways, band on band, so the body has a ribbed depth a plain coat never gets. A full hood in the same fur, a centre zip that runs to the chin, and a hem that stops at the hip and stays out of the way when you sit. The striping is pieced from dyed mink, not stitched on, so every band has the same pile as the white around it and the pattern survives years of wear instead of fraying at the edge.
We make it in our own workroom on West 30th Street, fit it here and alter it here. It belongs with the rest of our men’s furs, it is part of the fur clearance sale while it lasts, and when spring comes it can come back to us to be stored, cleaned and repaired. Sold on its own; the jeans, cap and scarf are styling.
