Description
The hem is the idea. On this black mink coat with stand collar the front closes on a slant, a single row of covered buttons running from the top of the collar down and across to one hip, and the hem follows the same line: short over that hip, falling to the knee on the other. Walking, it moves like a wrap; standing, it reads as a column with one clean diagonal. In black the line is everything, because there is no colour to look at instead.
The collar stands high enough to frame the jaw without a scarf, the waist is seamed in so the coat has a shape of its own over a thin knit, and three small buttons close each cuff. The skins are worked vertically, which keeps the silhouette long. It was photographed over a thigh boot and a leather glove, which is the whole outfit; add nothing.
Made and fitted in our own workroom on West 30th Street. It sits with our black mink coats and on the clearance rail for now, and it can come back to us each spring to be stored, cleaned and repaired. Sold on its own; the bag, boots and headband are styling.
