Men’s Burgundy Mink Fur Bomber Jacket with Hood and Cargo Pockets 1936

The colour is the reason to buy this one. A burgundy mink fur bomber jacket is a dark wine that passes for brown at a distance and turns red the moment a streetlight or a shop window hits it, so the jacket is quiet in daylight and loud at night without changing a thing. The dye goes to the root of the long guard hair, which is why it holds its depth in the shadow under the hood instead of going flat.

The hood unzips. With it up the jacket is deliberately oversized around the head and shoulders; with it off there is a stand collar underneath and the shape turns lean. Below that it is a blouson in the old sense, elastic at the cuff and hem, a zip to the chin, two buttoned cargo pockets on the chest and two hand pockets below. Over a straight blue jean, as photographed, it needs nothing else.

Cut and fitted in our own workroom on West 30th Street. Look at it beside the rest of our men’s fur bomber jackets and the other mink jackets we make, it is on the clearance rail for now, and it can come back to us every spring for cleaning and cold storage.
