Men’s Red & Black Striped White Mink Hooded Jacket for Basketball Game Day 7475

Red and black on white is the loudest of the three stripings we make this jacket in, and the one that carries furthest across a parking lot. Chicago wears these colours, Atlanta wears them too, and on a white mink ground they read from a block away. Down each sleeve run four bands, red, black, grey and red again, from the top of the shoulder to the cuff, and the same sequence crosses the two flap pockets at the hip so the pattern closes at the front instead of stopping at the arms.

Underneath the stripes it is the horizontal hooded jacket we build in white mink: skins worked sideways in bands, which gives the body its ribbed, padded look, a full hood cut from the same fur, a centre zip and a hip-length hem that clears a wide jean. The stripes are not fabric. They are strips of dyed mink pieced into the white, so the whole surface has one pile and one hand, and a red band brushes exactly the way the white beside it does.

Made in our own workroom on West 30th Street and fitted here before it leaves. It sits with the rest of our men’s mink coats and beside the other stripings among our white mink coats, and whenever the season ends it can come back to be stored, cleaned and repaired by the people who made it.
