Finnish Raccoon Collars
A Finnish raccoon collar is the cheapest way to change a coat you already own. Finnish raccoon carries a long, dense guard hair with a silver tip, so the collar sits high and full around the face and reads as far more coat than it is. Five colourways here, from black and white tipped through red, sky blue with green, and a red and blue multicolour.
Raccoon is chosen for this rather than fox because the guard hair is longer and springs back harder, which matters on a piece that is pushed up against a chin all day. The tipping is what gives it the depth — each hair runs from a dark base to a pale point, so the colour shifts as it moves instead of sitting flat.
These are detachable, which is the point of them. One collar changes a wool coat, a leather jacket and a raincoat over a single winter, and it goes in a drawer in April rather than into storage. If you have a coat you like the shape of but have stopped wearing, this is usually the fix.
Every collar is made, altered and repaired in our own West 30th Street workroom, and we will fit one to a coat you bring in if the closure needs changing.
