Red beside gold is the warmest pairing this design comes in, and on this women’s red trimmed white mink it does something the cooler colours cannot: it makes the white look warmer too. The band runs a true red with a gold edge down both sides of the zip from the hood to the hem and once round each forearm, and worn open, as photographed, the two red lines fall either side of a scarf like the lapels of a coat. Kansas City wears these colours in the cold, and it gets cold there.

White skins worked vertically keep the jacket sleek through the waist; a full hood in the same fur stands up on its own in snow and lies flat like a collar when it is down. A zip to the chin, a hem at the hip, sleeves cut long enough for a glove. Over cream leggings and a fur-topped boot it is a whole look; over a jersey it is a Sunday.
