Description

Cognac is the hardest of the browns to get right. Too pale and it reads sandy, too deep and it goes muddy under a shop light; this one is graded to sit where brandy sits, lifting to amber where the light catches the guard hair and settling to a dark russet through the skirt. It is a cognac mink coat with notch collar cut long, to the ankle, with a broad lapel folded deep across the chest and a twin-buckle belt in crocodile-embossed leather pulling the waist in hard enough to give the skirt somewhere to go.

Then the sleeve. It stays close to the arm to just past the elbow and opens into a deep gathered bell, held back at the wrist by a narrow leather strap and buckle so the fullness stays where it was put instead of swinging forward over the hand. It is the detail that dates the coat to now and the one that has to be fitted properly, which is why it is measured on you before it leaves.

It is made and altered in our own West 30th Street workroom, so the sleeve, the belt and the hem are all set to your measurements rather than a size chart.
