Black Mink Coats

A black mink coat remains the standard of American fur making, prized for its short nap, dense underfur, and practical durability over decades of winter wear. We build these garments primarily using American Blackglama ranch mink, a natural dark pelt whose deep brown-black tones reveal subtle warm undertones in natural daylight rather than an artificial flat appearance. We also work with sheared mink, clipping away the outer guard hairs to expose the dense, velvet-like underfur for a lighter drape and a smooth, matte finish. Mink pelt leather is supple yet tough, making it one of the most resilient natural furs available for daily wear in cold weather.

The collection centers on traditional full-length coats that offer complete protection against freezing winter winds, alongside three-quarter length strollers that allow for easy movement during city commutes and travel. Silhouettes range from clean straight cuts and hooded directional styles to wide-sweep swing coats tailored with demi mink inserts. To add contrast in texture and color, several coats feature contrasting fur accents, including full Russian sable tuxedo fronts, sable collars and cuffs, banded chinchilla shawl collars and fronts, and dyed fox trims. The cut and weight suit both women and men who need functional, long-lasting warmth, with dedicated cuts tailored specifically for broader frames and masculine tailoring.

When you select a black mink coat from our racks, you are working directly with the artisans who build and maintain them. Marc Kaufman Furs has operated in Manhattan since 1870, continuing the tradition of bench-made furrier work in our own workroom on West 30th Street. Having our craftspeople on site allows us to adjust hemlines, alter sleeve lengths, or modify closures to ensure a precise personal fit. Over the lifetime of your coat, our West 30th Street facility provides temperature-controlled summer cold storage, hand cleaning, conditioning, and structural repairs. Should your needs change in the future, our master furriers can also remodel or restyle the coat into a shorter jacket, stroller, or sheared design.
